How do you work with transitions?
Image description: We see two arms set against a gray and gold background. The arm on the left is dark brown and seems to fall listlessly; we can see their thumbnail is painted a light blue. The other arm is a lighter brown and catches the first person’s arm at the wrist, holding them up. The second person’s index finger is painted a vivid red. Light gray seems to surround the second person’s arm, while white and a light gold seem to enfold the first person’s arm.
After the challenges of the 5 of Nails, it is easy to feel as though we cannot trust anyone– especially ourselves. We may feel like giving up entirely, and it can be very difficult to ask for help. When pulling this card, you may feel as though you cannot see the light, but there is one, no matter how far it may appear. There are people to catch you when you feel as if you’re endlessly falling. This is a good time to call on your spirit guides, well ancestors, higher self, therapist, friends, and chosen family to hold space for you and help you to keep from completely numbing out.
This six also beckons us playfully into the liminal space. Like Mercury and Hermes, this card straddles the boundaries between worlds and offers their hand to show us a bigger perspective of the situation at hand. Being in this liminal space can feel like stagnation and frustration- we often want to speed ahead to the future, to the point when we believe we’ve “gotten over” past hurts. Our transition here, however, is precious. It can help us unravel everything we thought we knew and find deeper truths about things like our activism, gender, sexuality, spiritual beliefs, and other aspects of authentic self.
The Six of Nails asks you what needs to come with you on this journey to the liminal? Which beings can you call on for aid? And what deeper truths are available when you are able to spend time with the discomfort of transition?
