In what ways is your perspective shifting?
Image description: A thin dancer with light brown skin has their back toward the viewer, their long brown hair cascading down their back, partially obscuring their light blue top. The dancer holds their arms up gracefully. Their left arm ends at the wrist. The index and ring fingers of the right hand balance a waning crescent moon and a waxing crescent moon, stacked on top of each other. The moons create an infinity ring of green and red light. The dancer’s face is turned upward to gaze at the moons. In the background are two undulating black waves against a beautiful blue sky.
As we enter the 2 of Discs, the illusion of having a solid foundation begins to dissolve. We have learned the dances of our ancestors and of society, but as we do our Ace of Discs work, we see that these prescribed movements do not reflect our needs and desires. The dancer may be balancing multiple identities and expectations simultaneously against their own true self. The 2 of Discs is learning that “balance” is often messy and ugly, not perfect and pretty as the world believes it to appear.
The dancer begins to realize that the world is constantly moving and dancing, and they must move with it to find their new center, combining the movements they have learned with intuitive experimentation. The lunar cycle represents this constantly changing nature. What may be balanced and in tune with the world around us in the waxing crescent is not what is attuned to the waning crescent. The dancer surrenders themself to this motion. The moons are currently balanced perfectly, but what will happen in the next moment? This is only a snapshot in time.
When you pull the 2 of Discs, investigate the areas in your life where your perspective may be shifting (or need a shift). This is a moment to evaluate where you are trying to make everything work for everyone else. Like a new plant, you are learning how to work with this energy and experimenting with how much water and sunlight you need. This can take patience, flexibility and devotion, but it is a worthwhile journey.
Some questions to consider when you pull this card:
- How is your journey of internal transformation shifting your awareness?
- How can you balance the need for safety and security with the push for growth?
- If you are feeling guilty or the need to sacrifice your needs and desires, where are these feelings coming from? What parts of you believe that your needs might be secondary to others’?
- Are you feeling conflicting pulls as you try to balance multiple identities or code-switch? Are there areas where you can allow yourself to show up as your true self more and put your needs ahead of others’ comfort?
