XVIII Moon

How do you relate to uncertainty?

Image description: A round, white, full moon glows brightly in the sky. An aura of light blue fading into black and gray surrounds it. In the foreground, a straight-size figure in shadow stands in profile. The sky is dotted with stars and the fading orange streaks of sunset arching over a distant background of trees. The figure’s curly long hair is tied into a bun at the back of their head, a few small curls escaping. Their lips are slightly parted, as if in awe at their surroundings.

Step into the Moon’s landscape. This is a place to dream, fantasize, visualize, re-awaken. This card can often be frustrating as we are searching for answers and clarity that satisfy the demands of our mind. The Moon is not interested in these. This card asks you to set aside logical understanding, and to reconnect with a felt sense of understanding that transcends words instead. The Moon does not give direct answers because the answers are not the point. The point is in seeking connection, to swim in deep waters that reunify us with the collective subconscious, the other half of our Piscean fish.

The light of the Moon makes that which is familiar new again and, in many cases, more frightening. Places that we ordinarily may feel safe become threatening. It can bring up both personal and collective shadow work, but it can also be a way to re-enchant our lives by looking at that which we take for granted in a new “light.” It can remind us to look at ourselves and the world around us with renewed awe and reverence. And perhaps this sense of awe is necessary to our magic- understanding the deep power and wildness that we hold as individuals and as a collective.

The Moon can often be a safer space for those who do not conform to societal standards than the Sun. It welcomes those of us on the outskirts, those who have seen the dark underbelly of the social contract, and especially those who speak out against the harms they’ve witnessed. The Moon holds witness to our pain and our deep emotions.

This card also references non-linear time and lunar-based cultures. When you pull this card, you may find it helpful to observe what sign and phase the moon is in.
