Stephanie, Deck Artist

Hello! I am Stephanie (formally @youaretarot), the artist of the Imperfect Tarot deck. My pronouns are she/her/hers, and I live in the Detroit area on the unceded lands of the Sac and Fox Nation. I earned a Master’s degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
My co-creator, Lindsay, has a deep need to understand the Tarot and the wisdom to know that learning never ends. She is analytical, flexible, and intuitive, and I knew she would be an ideal partner to create a deck. What I have learned from the creation process is that you don’t have to be perfect to accomplish a dream. I stopped making art for over a decade due to fear and self-doubt. The Tarot brought me home to my intuition, and with that, I found a supportive deck partner. I still struggle with inner criticism, but I paint despite it. I hope that our deck adds to the lineage of the Tarot but from an inclusive, loving, honest, and magical lens. I hope it helps you face your fears and accomplish your wildest dreams.
Lindsay, Guidebook Writer

Hello all! I’m Lindsay of Radiant Unknown (she/they) and the primary writer on the Imperfect Tarot’s guidebook. I’m a fat, white, and queer tarot reader on unceded Muskogee/Creek Nation land (Atlanta area). I’ve got an 8th house sun in Aquarius and a Capricorn stellium, which helps explain my Type A personality and fascination with the subconscious! 🙂
I never thought I’d create a tarot deck. I met my co-creator, Stephanie, at Samara Kasai‘s Tarot for Healing Justice course and was surprised and delighted when Stephanie asked me if I’d like to collaborate on a deck. I love tarot, but I find that a lot of card interpretations can be disempowering and reinforce existing systems of oppression. I’m glad to be able to build on the work of many other tarot readers and deck creators who are presenting alternatives to these harmful interpretations so that tarot can be a more inclusive and empowering tool!
I’ve learned a ton during the process of creating this deck so far. First, it’s such an honor to work with such a talented partner, and I’m very grateful that we’re both allowing this deck to flow through us rather than forcing it. I’ve also learned that I often need time to subconsciously simmer and synthesize information before I’m ready to write. It’s hard to strike the balance between giving myself that time and procrastinating because of perfectionism. Lastly, I’ve created a much more personal connection to the cards through this process and helped refine my own interpretations while trying to permit myself to continue allowing my interpretations to evolve. I am so proud of the deck that we’re creating, and I hope that you all find it empowering, inclusive, and celebratory.
